Thomas + Nicole | St Katherine Greek Orthodox Wedding | Arlington VA
Have you ever met a couple, and just knew that they were meant for each other? Thomas and Nicole have a joy and love that is contagious, and it was could not have been more apparent than on their wedding day. The massive amounts of rain could do nothing to damper the mood of joy and celebration the was palpable in the air. There was so much love and generosity within and between these two families. Both Nicole and Thomas's family welcomed me in to their celebration and made me (and everyone) feel so warm and welcomed! And there were so many personal touches, as well as Greek tradition, that made Nicole and Thomas wedding one for the books!
Nicole picked hot pink and black, with hints of leopard print as her colors. This girl is the perfect combination of feminine and fierce, and her style certainly reflected that! One tradition that I thought was so sweet was Nicole's mom putting her veil on in front of their bedroom mirror. This was a tradition that Nicole's grandma started, and it was such a sweet moment for the two of them. Thomas and his groomsmen got ready and loosened up over at the Hilton hotel. A huge thank you to Kayla for capturing some great moments of them all getting ready!
There is a huge sports following in both Thomas and Nicole's family. However, after seeing her dad's sports dedicated room, I think they take the cake for #1 fans!
St Katherine's is a BEAUTIFUL Greek Orthodox Church located in Arlington,VA. If you have never been inside of a Greek church, be prepared to be blown away just like I was!
Their ceremony had so many special, traditional Greek elements to it. There was The "Service of the Bethrothal," which is where the priest blesses the engaged couple, then blesses their rings. Rings are exchanged 3 times. There is also the "Crowning." The couple has wedding crowns placed on their heads, which are joined together by a long ribbon. They then participate in a ceremonial walk, in which the priest leads the couple around the altar. This is the couples first steps as husband and wife, and a hymn is sung to the Holy Martyrs. In addition, the entire service is said in by Greek and English! It was definitely a wedding ceremony to remember!
After the ceremony, the guests headed over to cocktail hour, we finished up family formals, and then the partying began! Nicole's dad gave such a touching speech, and I'm not sure that there was a dry eye in the room. Nicole's cousin Helen was also her wedding planner, and holy cow, she did an AMAZING job pulling everything for the wedding day together! Seriously, that lady can put together a party! A sparkler champange toast led the way into a night of dancing, with Thomas and his mom putting on a fantastic choreographed dance to a whole combination of songs (think Michael Jackson "Thriller") In addition, there was traditional Greek dancing! If you have never been in the middle of a Greek dancing circle, put it on your bucket list, because it is intense! There was also a cookie/snack bar, popcorn machine, and ice cream station! Guests danced long into the night, and I could not think of a more perfect day for two wonderful people!
Nicole and Thomas: Cheers to a lifetime of Love, Happiness, and Adventure! Thank you for letting me be a part of your perfect and special day!
